Description
Utapau was an ancient, windswept world, largely isolated from the rest of the galaxy. Its surface is pitted with deep sinkholes, at the bottom of which life is concentrated, so that the ratio of inhabited to barren areas turned out to be the reverse of what is usual for other planets. The population numbered about 95 million; the native species were the Pau'ans and the Utai, and by the time of the Clone Wars the Amani had also settled on the planet.
The planet long remained a target of the Separatists. Some of their leaders were based here, but before the battle, on Darth Sidious's orders, they were transferred to a mining complex on Mustafar. General Grievous remained to lead the defense and was killed by Master Kenobi; shortly afterward Order 66 was issued. After the war ended, the planet was occupied by the Galactic Empire, and some of the Pau'ans left their homeworld, becoming refugees.
