Great Purge of Mandalore

For years the Empire tried to govern Mandalore through loyal clans and appointed governors, relying on the Saxon family and the super commando units it had created. Infighting among the Mandalorian clans weakened the planet, and the united resistance led by Bo-Katan Kryze showed that the world could not be kept under control. It was then decided that no one should possess it. The Night of a Thousand Tears began with a massive bombardment: bombers burned out settlements, including the capital, Sundari, gunships destroyed the survivors, and ground units and droids finished off those they found among the ruins. Ships attempting to leave the planet were intercepted, and no prisoners were taken. Beskar armor offered no protection against such an onslaught. After the rout, the Imperial officer Gideon offered Kryze an end to the slaughter in exchange for surrender and disarmament; she handed him the Darksaber, but the extermination continued. The surface was fused and became impossible to scan from space, the mined beskar was melted down into Imperial ingots, and the surviving Mandalorians scattered across the galaxy and lived in hiding, believing their homeworld cursed.
