Civil war on Mandalore
Warning: this entry reveals minor plot details.
Clans that served the Empire clashed with those who chose resistance.
Description
After the Clone Wars, Mandalore was divided. The Empire did not subjugate the planet directly but handed its administration to a clan that agreed to serve the new power: its head received the title of viceroy and the Darksaber, an ancient blade whose possession by custom confirmed the right to supreme authority. Clans that refused to swear allegiance were persecuted. The confrontation grew into a protracted internecine conflict. Supporters of the resistance rallied around the heir of the former ruling house, while Imperial Super Commandos acted as punitive forces against defiant settlements. A special role was played by a weapon developed by a Mandalorian master on Imperial commission: it struck down wearers of Mandalorian armor and was therefore suited to exterminating entire clans, which pushed the wavering to the side of the insurgents. The conflict exhausted the strength of both sides and ended with the Darksaber passing to the leader of the resistance, but it did not bring peace to Mandalore. The Empire responded by devastating the planet, and the clans themselves emerged from the war divided, which determined their position in the decades that followed.
