Krath coup in the Empress Teta system
The Krath seize power in the system, relying on Sith magic and military force.
Description
The Krath arose in 3,998 BBY as a secret society of bored Tetan nobles; it was founded by the heir to the throne Satal Keto and his cousin Aleema. For a long time the society played no role in politics, until, after the Naddist rebellion on Onderon, the cousins attracted the attention of the spirit of Freedon Nadd, who became their teacher and quickly advanced them along the dark path. The coup of 3,997 BBY was directed against the cousins' parents, Lord Keto and Lady Magda Keto. The conspirators went up to the orbital carbonite smelting plant where the rulers conducted affairs of state, declared themselves the Krath and the new rulers of the system, and executed the dignitaries present, including Lady Keto, while Satal slowly lowered Lord Keto into a vat of molten carbonite. The former institutions were replaced by the sole rule of the Krath, which relied on the suppression of any dissent. A small civil war broke out: some Tetan factions rebelled, but Aleema's sorcerous abilities secured victory for the cult, and an attempt by the Republic and the Jedi to intervene ended in failure.
