Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi

Description

The eighth episode of the film saga and the middle installment of the sequel trilogy; it premiered in December 2017. Rian Johnson served as director and sole screenwriter, Kathleen Kennedy as producer, and the music was written by John Williams. The film continues the story with almost no time gap after The Force Awakens.

The film develops the storylines of Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, and Kylo Ren, introduces the mechanic Rose Tico and Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, and also shows the casino city of Canto Bight and the planet Crait. A significant part of the action is devoted to questions about the nature of the Force and the role of the Jedi Order in the new era, which made the film the most debated in the trilogy.

The reception was sharply polarized: despite high marks from professional critics and large box office earnings, the film drew mixed responses from audiences. For the archive, the film is important as a source of information about the structure of the Resistance, the state of the Jedi legacy, and the geography of the First Order era.
