Description
After the defeat of the Galactic Empire in the Civil War and its breakup into scattered fragments, the Alliance to Restore the Republic became the New Republic. In the era that followed, Luke Skywalker undertook to revive the order that had been exterminated by Order 66 and began training a new generation of Force-sensitives. The order of this period is customarily called the New Jedi Order. Among Skywalker's students was his nephew, Ben Solo. It was he who ultimately betrayed his teacher and destroyed the new generation: by the time Skywalker recovered from the attack, the Jedi training temple was already burning and the students had been slaughtered. Believing himself to blame for Ben Solo's fall and for the deaths of his students, Skywalker withdrew into exile and vanished from the galaxy, leaving behind only pieces of a star map that pointed the way to him. Thus the first attempt to restore the order was cut short, and its continuation fell to the next generation.
