Description
The final installment of the prequel trilogy, which premiered on May 19, 2005. As with the two previous episodes, George Lucas served as director and screenwriter, Rick McCallum as producer, and John Williams as composer. At the time of its release the film was considered the final chapter of the entire film saga and the first Star Wars film to receive a US age rating stricter than the customary family one.
The action covers the final stage of the Clone Wars, roughly three years after the events of the second episode. The film introduces General Grievous, shows the Jedi Order in a state of protracted war, and brings Anakin Skywalker's storyline to the threshold of the original trilogy. A significant number of galactic locations, including Coruscant, Utapau, Kashyyyk, and Mustafar, receive detailed on-screen realization for the first time.
For the encyclopedia, this is a key connecting link: it is here that the Republic era and the era with which A New Hope begins come together. In the worldwide box office the film ranked second in earnings for 2005.
