Daegen Lok infiltrates the Despot Army

25,805 BBYExact dateLast checked: 23 October 2026

With the help of Baron Volnos Ryo, the Je'daii Ranger Daegen Lok posed as a defector, won Hadiya's trust, and rose to become her general and lover.

Description

Daegen Lok was a human from the Tython system, trained by Master Quan-Jang, Temple Master of Anil Kesh; together with the Twi'lek Hawk Ryo he received the rank of Ranger even before the war began. The pretext for the operation was Hadiya's reprisal against the Ryo clan: she executed the father and eldest son, who had refused to join her, after which the title of baron passed to the middle son, Volnos, who sought revenge. Posing as a disgraced Ranger and securing Volnos's support, Lok entered the Despot Army, rose to general, and became Hadiya's lover, beginning to lose sight of his own purpose. A reminder from Volnos brought him back to his task: during the siege of Kaleth, Lok struck the sleeping queen with a dagger through a slit in her armor, but he hesitated, since killing by stealth was considered unacceptable among the Je'daii. Hadiya managed to slash his face near the right eye; in a rage Lok took up his sword and killed her, then fought his way out of the camp, deliberately leaving one witness. Hadiya's death turned the tide of the war, and in 25,800 BBY Lok was made a master. The scar above his right eye stayed with him forever, as did a growing sense of his own exceptionalism.
