Formation of the Shadow Collective

After the defeat on Florrum, where Obi-Wan Kenobi and the pirate Hondo Ohnaka thwarted the plans of Maul and his brother, the brothers were left drifting in an escape pod and were picked up by Pre Vizsla, leader of the Mandalorian splinter group Death Watch. At the camp on the moon Zanbar they were given aid, and Maul proposed an alliance to Vizsla. Partly acting on the advice of Mother Talzin, Maul brought Death Watch, Black Sun, the Pyke Syndicate, the Hutt Clan, and the Nightbrothers under a single command, creating an underworld alliance capable of rivaling both the Confederacy and the Republic. Maul's own main goal was revenge on his former master, Darth Sidious. The assembled forces made it possible to seize Mandalore, although the allies pursued different goals: Vizsla sought only to regain his homeworld and therefore betrayed Maul, but lost to him in a duel and was executed. Later the alliance began to fall apart: the Hutts withdrew first, and the Pykes and Black Sun broke off ties after a defeat at the hands of the Separatists.
