Description
Luthen Rael kept an antiques shop on Coruscant frequented by Imperial officials and wealthy collectors. The trade served as a cover and at the same time as a source of funds: under the guise of transactions he conducted negotiations, passed on information, and selected people. Convinced that scattered uprisings were doomed, he set out to link the existing groups into a single network. The work went on for years and in strict secrecy. Rael personally selected operatives, supplied the cells with money and weapons, and planned high-profile operations designed to force the Empire into harsh retaliatory measures and thereby deprive the population of its neutrality. He maintained contact with patrons in the Senate but deliberately sacrificed individual groups and people for the sake of preserving the network as a whole and did not allow the cells to know about one another. The network he created became one of the foundations of the future Alliance, ensuring coordinated action and a constant flow of information from Imperial institutions. The price of this structure was high: it was measured in the lives of operatives left without help and in Rael's own complete renunciation of a private life.
