Profile
One of the oldest and most respected worlds of the Republic, known for its art, culture and tradition of helping other planets. In the final years of the Republic it was represented by Senator Bail Organa. The planet was destroyed by a shot from the Death Star's superlaser on the orders of Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin.

Description
Alderaan lay in the Core and was a mountainous planet. In the last decades of the Galactic Republic's existence the world was ruled by Queen Breha Organa, and in the Galactic Senate it was represented by her husband, Senator Bail Prestor Organa. The planet was valued for its nature, its tranquility, and the development of its arts.
After the proclamation of the New Order, Alderaan played a prominent role in the formation of the Alliance to Restore the Republic and became one of its first supporters. Because of these ties the planet was destroyed: Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin decided to test the superlaser of the moon-sized battle station at full power. Among the few survivors was Princess Leia Organa, the adopted daughter of Bail and Breha and heir to the ruling House of Organa.
