Closure of the hyperspace lanes
The Republic's chancellor temporarily halted traffic on hyperspace routes until the danger from the debris had passed.
Description
The disaster was caused by the collision of the large cargo ship Legacy Run, traveling along a reliably established route, with an obstacle invisible to its crew: a Stormship of the Nihil raiders moving along one of the rare secret paths. Captain Hedda Casset managed to depressurize and cut off compartments, saving the passengers, but died together with the bridge crew. The ship's fragments did not disperse but continued moving through hyperspace and began to be randomly ejected into normal space, striking inhabited systems. These Emergences destroyed several moons in the Trymant system, including Kor Bataal, and turned the planet Brendok into a lifeless world. The main blow fell on the Hetzal system, where Jedi and volunteers were conducting a rescue operation. Since it was impossible to predict where the next Emergence would occur, Chancellor Lina Soh ordered a temporary halt to traffic on hyperspace routes in the Outer Rim until the danger had passed. The measure paralyzed the trade of an entire region and became one of the first steps in the confrontation between the Republic and the Nihil.
