Warning: this entry reveals minor plot details.

An unknown blight spread from world to world, turning everything living to dust, and no one knew its cause.

Description

The blight was transmitted by touch and drained life and color from matter, leaving a petrified shell resembling pumice or ash. It caused no pain: the affected spot simply felt empty, and to the Force-sensitive, dead, as if the Force shunned it. The Nameless left the same mark on their victims, and this similarity was first noticed by those who encountered the infection. The first sample was obtained at a high price: an infected arm had to be cut off and locked in a force field. Jordanna Sparkburn brought it out of the Occlusion Zone and handed it over to Knight Vernestra Rwoh, who delivered the find to the Council on Coruscant. Its study was entrusted to Knight Reath Silas, who worked together with the former Jedi Azlin Rell; they established the link between the blight and the Nameless. The Drengir, who perceived the galaxy as a single root, took the contagion for diseased roots and fled from inhabited worlds. A warning had sounded a century and a half earlier: a participant in the Path of the Open Hand's expedition to Planet X had a vision of a blight that could not be stopped. Marchion Ro, who studied it after the Jedi did, saw in it not a threat but a possible weapon.
