Corellia's secession and the beginning of the Second Galactic Civil War
The Corellian system turned against the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, which escalated into open armed conflict.
Description
Corellia emerged from the war with the Yuuzhan Vong almost unscathed and quickly grew stronger by extending loans to devastated worlds. The Galactic Federation of Free Alliances abolished its post of Governor-General, the Five Worlds received a common government headed by Prime Minister Aidel Saxan, and the pardoned war criminal Thrackan Sal-Solo became Minister of War and head of Corellia. At the same time, resentment grew: Corellian money and ships went to rebuilding other systems, while in return the system received only restrictions. After the Swarm War the Alliance demanded new taxes and ships from its members, and the Sector Defense Limits imposed a ceiling on local forces. Corellia began delaying payments and secretly building a fleet with long-range weapons, buying munitions on Adumar in violation of the ban, and attempted to restart Centerpoint Station as a means of leverage in negotiations. When the Alliance tried to neutralize both the Corellian government and the station at a single stroke, matters came to open combat, and the collapse of the peace talks and the subsequent battle for Tralus finally turned the confrontation into war.
