Attack on Port Haileap

Port Haileap on the planet Haileap was a peaceful frontier settlement with a spaceport and research laboratories and had no serious defenses. It lay away from the main areas of fighting, which made it convenient prey for raiders. The attack was carried out by Nihil pirates from Kara Xu's Tempest: several strike ships ravaged and looted the spaceport. They were resisted by Jedi Master Jorinda Boffrey, who rallied Jedi and civilians to the defense; Knight Kota Jarik took to the air in a Jedi Vector. The defense prevented the settlement from being captured entirely, but the attackers managed to break into a laboratory and take captive the young inventor Avon Starros, who worked there together with the scientist Glenna Kip. The raiders left as quickly as they had appeared, leaving heavy destruction behind them. The attack showed that a Nihil strike could fall on any corner of the frontier, even a completely peaceful one, and that the Republic was unable to protect all of its outlying holdings.
