Vima's training under Ulic Qel-Droma

Vima Sunrider persuades Ulic Qel-Droma, who at first refuses, to take her as his student. She proves an exceptionally diligent student: under his guidance she builds her first lightsaber, and a nearly father-daughter bond forms between them. Meanwhile, Nomi Sunrider learns what is happening and sets out for Rhen Var to retrieve her daughter.
Description
Qel-Droma at first mistook the girl for her mother, and upon hearing her request for training he refused outright: he could not feel the Force and believed he had nothing to teach. After driving Vima outside the walls, he nevertheless went back for her in the blizzard and sheltered her in the ruins, where after a long conversation he agreed to take her as his apprentice. Vima informed her mother, who remained at Exis, of his decision and that she was safe. The training progressed quickly. From Adegan crystals that had belonged to her late father, Vima built her first lightsaber, and in practice duels with her mentor, who had retained his swordsmanship even without the Force, she quickly became skilled. When Qel-Droma decided he could teach her no further, Vima suggested that he be not like a painter gone blind but like a sculptor: together they built a platform by an ice mountain and carved statues with their lightsabers — she depicted her father, and he his teacher. The training was cut short by Qel-Droma's death from Hoggon's shot. As he was dying, he gave his apprentice his medallion and for the first time called her a Jedi; Vima Sunrider later became one of the most prominent Masters of her time.
