Guardian Protocols of the Order

c. 229 BBYApproximate dateLast checked: 23 October 2026

After the loss of the station, the Order imposed strict security rules on all of its knights.

Description

The Guardian Protocols were not devised during the war with the Nihil: the set of emergency rules had existed in the Order long before it and was put into effect by the High Council only for the duration of severe crises. The fall of Starlight Beacon became the occasion for reintroducing it, and the Council notified the Galactic Senate of the measures taken. The code prescribed accelerating the combat training of younglings, allowing them to use real lightsabers instead of training ones; transferring the Order's remote outposts to droid management; suspending independent research; holding Padawan trials early; limiting the expenditure of resources; permitting offensive action as needed; and, what was considered most important, forbidding Jedi to travel alone. Later, permission was added to the rules to assess Force-related artifacts as potential weapons, regardless of their origin. These measures turned the Order from an association of peacekeepers into an effectively military organization. After the final defeat of the Nihil, the protocols were revoked.
